The beating heart of the arts world with museums, galleries and festivals galore; and a shopping and dining haven with numerous international influences, from hearty street food to the seriously gourmet (heads up that a hefty part of your day will likely be taken up by deciding what to eat, but we can recommend our favourites), this city is almost unbeatable for a glamorous getaway.
Almost all of the sights in the Big Apple are walkable in you're in Manhattan, but the Subway system is so easy to use that venturing further afield is never a problem. The best way to experience the city on foot is on a guided walking tour. Explore the historic streets of Harlem; the exotic flavours of Chinatown; the bustling and glittering Financial District; and the streets of Little Italy before you head to the upmarket neighbourhood of Chelsea to walk the High Line.
When it comes to family-friendly things to see and do in the 'city that never sleeps', you can't get more iconic than Lady Liberty herself. A boat ride to Liberty Island is a must, and gives incredible views of the city from the water as you get closer and closer to one of world's largest statues. Rising 151ft into the air and standing as a beacon for opportunity and freedom, be sure to stop off here for a stroll around and some amazing photos, before jumping back on the boat to head to Ellis Island to learn about the city's migrant history that made it the international hub that it is today.
Once you're done seeing the sights of the concrete jungle - from the famous department stores to the sobering 9/11 Memorial - head for the leafy paths of Central Park; a green oasis in the heart of the hustle and bustle. The park is home to Central Park Zoo; Belvedere Castle; John Lennon's Strawberry Fields; and the 20 acre lake where you can boat in the summer and skate in the winter.
