South of Syracuse, near the eastern coast of Sicily, the town of Noto is a jewel of baroque architecture.
The town, which dates back to ancient times, was completely destroyed in 1693 by an earthquake. It was then rebuilt a few miles away in the same style as the original architecture, using the golden stone of the region. Noto holidays provide a glimpse of the rich baroque heritage of Sicily as you go through the main street lined with palaces and monumental churches, meeting the locals and sampling the local Italian produce.
