When it comes to sun, sea and sand, Belize comes up trumps. This 11-day itinerary takes you to Ambergris Caye, the country's largest island and famed for its thriving underwater world. Discover the Great Blue Hole, a diver's paradise and live out your beach dreams on powder-white sand and striking azure waters.
Route
Fly to Miami
This morning, board your morning flight from London to Miami. The non-stop flight will take around ten hours, and we always recommend a night (or more) in the city to break up the journey. Arrive in the evening and a private chauffeur will take you to your hotel.
Belize Bound
Wake up early for your two-hour flight to Belize City before you connect onto a 15-minute domestic flight taking you to San Pedro in Belize's Ambergris Caye. On arrival, a private driver will be waiting to take you to your hotel. After a long journey, unwind on a palm-fringed beach and relax as the sun sets. You don't have to budge from the white sand unless it's to take a dip in the sea. Should you wish to explore a little, our local Concierge can recommend the best beach restaurants for dining with your toes in the sand.
Beach Scenes
You have today to do as much or as little as you please. Whether that's unwinding on a sun lounger or chartering a boat for a snorkelling jaunt, there's plenty to do (or not). Feel like a massage? We'll book one for you in advance. Or up-the-ante with a heli-adventure and take in bird's eye views of the astonishing turquoise blue and post card-worthy cayes (islands). We can also arrange snorkelling, diving, heli-adventures and caving.
The Great Blue Hole
There's a reason why the Great Blue Hole is bucket-list worthy. At the centre of Belize's Lighthouse Reef, the perfectly-circular vertical sinkhole (over 400ft deep) is a diver's paradise, explored by the likes of Jacques Cousteau. The stalactites, stalagmites and haunting limestone formations become clearer the deeper you go, so don't forget the GoPro.
Your guide will then take you to two dive sites where you can discover an abundance of underwater marine life including butterfly fish, angelfish and minnows in their millions. You may also see sea turtles and elegant spotted eagle rays. In between dives, a picnic lunch will be waiting for you on a remote caye.
Deep-sea Fishing
Belize's awesome barrier reef (the second longest in the world) lends itself to some of the finest deep-sea fishing in the Americas. Even better, the tropical waters and rich marine habitat mean you can fish all year round. Wake up early and head out into the deep blue with a local crew who know the best spots to cast your line. Sitting out in open water under warm Caribbean sun is an idyllic pastime in itself.
Expect moments of excitement as you strap into your chair and grapple with huge fish such as wahoo, blue marlin or king fish. After a day of salty sea breeze and thrilling encounters, end the day in the mid-afternoon to head back in time for a sundowner.
Hol Chan & Shark Ray Alley
It would be a shame to miss out on the Hol Chan Marine Reserve, a must-do for snorkellers and divers. A ten-minute boat ride will take you to this kaleidoscope of coral gardens brimming with exotic marine life such as black groupers, sea turtles and moray eels. From one waterworld to another, head to Shark Ray Alley, where schools of (harmless) nurse sharks ply the shallow waters of this narrow passage. Return to your hotel for lunch and some downtime.
Beach Dreams
Spend the next three days relaxing on the hot sand, taking dips in picture-perfect crystalline waters. Families may want to consider taking a day trip to the mainland to go tubing around its ancient Mayan caves. Birders will no doubt enjoy guided excursions to the island's mangroves and marshes, home to over 260 bird species. Enjoy jaunts off Goff's Cay where you can see manatees in the wild and pause for barbeque lunches on tiny white islands. Feeling romantic? Why not take a private catamaran ride along the coastline where you can lap up the sunset while enjoying a bottle of champagne.
Depart Belize
Bid farewell to the beach. A private driver will whisk you to the airport in good time for your 15-minute flight to Belize City. From here, fly two hours to Miami where you'll connect to an overnight flight home, a journey of around nine hours.
Arrive Home
You flight lands in London in the early morning.
