Our travel specialists
Iceland Specialist
What do you love most about Iceland?
The dramatic scenery and the sheer emptiness of the place.
When did you first visit Iceland and what was your first impression?
It felt like I was landing on the moon! It was really early in the morning as our plane was landing and as I looked out of the window slightly bleary eyed and half asleep, I saw steam rising from a bright blue lagoon in a crater-like landscape. It’s unlike anywhere else.
USA Specialist
Why do you love the USA so much?
It’s big with so much on offer, but importantly the culture is not the same throughout the country. The US is more like several smaller countries tied together; the laid-back lifestyle of the west is completely different to the frenzied east coast cities; throw in conservative small towns, amazing music cities plus a huge number of national parks and America is great for exploring, especially on road trips.
Mexico Specialist
Why do you love Mexico so much?
Mexico has so much to offer to virtually every type of traveller. Bustling metropolises, a rich and varied history, powder white beaches, steamy jungles and world-famous food. As I have a Mexican wife, I would have to say that I love the people the most. They are warm and welcoming, fun and friendly and they love to show you a good time.
Portugal Specialist
What do you love most about Portugal?
I love how much diversity there is in the country. From the quaint cobbled streets of Lisbon to the beautiful beaches in the Algarve, to the expansive scenery in the Azores Islands – there is something for everyone.
When did you first visit Portugal and what was your first impression?
I first visited Portugal for my study abroad period which I did in Lisbon. My first impression was how laidback the city felt and how friendly the people were – not to mention how delicious the food was!
Sri Lanka Specialist
Why do you love Sri Lanka so much?
I love Sri Lanka because it has so much to offer, from tea plantations and stunning scenery to beautiful beaches and above all, warm and friendly locals.
When did you first visit Sri Lanka and what was your first impression?
I went to Sri Lanka for the first time about five years ago and I have since been obsessed due to the diverse locations and activities on offer here. I am yet to speak to anyone who travels to Sri Lanka and does not mention just how amazingly kind, welcoming and smiley Sri Lankan people are as well.
Oman Specialist
What do you love most about Oman?
I love that Oman’s geography is so diverse. You can go from gorgeous beaches to rugged mountains to endless sand dunes, all in the space of a few hours, and each area is so unique and beautiful.
What’s been your most memorable experience in Oman?
Having a private camp in the desert was absolutely magical. Watching the sunset across the dunes, enjoying a delicious candlelit dinner, then sipping mint tea under a blanket of stars... truly unforgettable
Indonesia Specialist
Why do you love Indonesia so much?
I love being by and in the ocean and so an archipelago of over 17,500 islands was always going to be a hit! What I love most is the sheer variety of experiences – you can hike up to the crater rim of an active volcano and working sulphur mine at the crack of dawn in Eastern Java, and be snorkelling or diving the colourful reefs of Menjangan Island in Bali by the late afternoon. The archipelago is paradise for wildlife lovers too. Seeing orangutans in their natural habitat is an absolute privilege.
Cambodia Specialist
What made you fall in love with Cambodia?
My first visit was in 1997, when I visited on a backpacking trip. The Angkor temples were almost deserted back then and the atmosphere of mystery wandering through these largely unexplored sites was incredible. Of course, experiences like that are impossible to get now – at least at Angkor - but the temples still have an amazing vibe that no-one can be immune to.
Romania Specialist
Why do you love Romania so much?
I love how different this is to the rest of Europe, I was totally blown away by the unique cultural history, authenticity and untouched nature of the country. This therefore allows you to really disconnect and take it all in compared to other busier parts of Europe. It feels wild, free and a world away from modern life.
Morocco Specialist
Why do you love Morocco so much?
I love how vibrant and varied the country is, with its glorious juxtaposition of chaos and calm. I love that you can very easily combine the hustle and bustle of one of the imperial cities, with both coast and mountains and even a stop in the desert in a short space of time without too much travel. I love the ease of how close Morocco is, a mere three-and-a-half hours from London and you are in a completely different and magical world.
