Special things to do on Victoria Falls and Kafue holidays:
You can hear Victoria Falls before you see it. As you get closer, mist fills the air, and you realise this could just be one of the most magical places on earth. A ‘flight of angels’ is the ultimate way to explore the falls – a helicopter ride over the raging waters to appreciate the sheer scale of this curtain of water before flying along beneath the falls to catch a glimpse of the Zambezi’s canyon and rapids below. If heights aren’t your thing, head out onto the water on a guided boat ride to Livingstone Island for afternoon tea or, for a little more adrenaline, venture out for a white-water rafting adventure on the river’s rapids, keeping an eye out for wildlife at the water’s edge.
You can’t head to Zambia’s Victoria Falls without having a swim, or at least dipping a toe in. The legendary Devil’s Pool is the perfect place to dive into the Zambezi, before it plunges 350ft over the edge. This will without a doubt be one of the best selfies you take all holiday.
This part of Africa is of course renowned for its wildlife, and Kafue is the perfect place to head once you’ve had your fill of Victoria Falls’ water wonderland. Exploring the surrounding reserves and parks is a must, especially if you have little wannabe safari guides in tow. Grab your binos and look out for lone lions, sentinel cheetahs or the ever-elusive leopards, as well as more common (but equally beautiful) species, including impalas, waterbucks and zebras.
